Water. A clean source of energy.

Beaulieu Canada is the first carpet mill to source 100% of its energy from renewable sources: hydroelectricity and wind power.

Hydropower comes from the force of moving water and is a clean, renewable and ecologically friendly source of energy. Hydro Quebec, Beaulieu Canada’s sole supplier of electricity, has hydroelectric plants built near fast-moving water such as rivers and dams that capture and convert the gravitational force of water first into mechanical then electrical energy.

In one year, the renewable hydroelectric energy used by Beaulieu Canada saves 59,465,000 pounds of carbon dioxide from being emitted into the atmosphere.

Turning up the heat to reduce greenhouse gas.
Beaulieu Canada recently implemented a system enabling waste hot water generated from the dyeing and finishing process to be used to preheat incoming fresh water. A water reservoir and a series of special pipes with a thermal exchange capacity were installed in the plant. Waste hot water generated from the dyeing and finishing process at 100°F is pumped to the reservoir. The incoming fresh water is preheated using the captured thermal energy from the waste hot water for a total heat transfer efficiency of 85%.

Thanks to the success of this project, Beaulieu Canada realized a natural gas savings of 3,200,000 m3 in the first year, and a reduction of 5,870 tons of greenhouse gases.
