Before going shopping you should sketch your room:

Sketch the width and length dimensions for the room(s) and add the measurements.

Be sure to include doorways, windows, closets, stairs, fireplaces, cabinets, heat sources and lighting.

If replacing an existing floor look at your floors and note on your plan any noticeable traffic patterns. Also note what you like, and what you don’t like about your existing flooring.

Ideas & Reminder List
Along with your room sketch list your ideas for the room. Also, list anything that is important to remember, such as fabrics from the room when going shopping for flooring.

Include your favorite colours, proposed room palette (wallpaper, paint, etc.) fabric style and colour, new furniture etc...
