What is Laminate flooring?
Laminate floors combine realistic designs with a tough, durable and water-resistant finish. They can look like wood, stone or ceramic flooring but because they float over an underlay making them more comfortable and quieter underfoot.

The look is created by printing a high resolution image on a print film layer that is protected by melamine resin. The surface is overlaid with Aluminium Oxide, a very hard mineral. This gives laminate floors their durability as well as their scratch and stain resistant qualities.

The strong core of most laminate floor is high-density fibreboard (HDF). HDF is the most stable of engineered wood-based panels.

The joining system is milled into or attached to this core. Lastly, a balancing layer is attached to the back to help keep the boards flat.

Laminate floating floors can be installed directly over existing floors or subfloors without gluing them down. This saves time and installation costs also they can be used in many places others cannot. Today’s glue-less floating floors can be used as soon as they are installed.

Because floating floors are not attached to the material underneath, they act independently and are self-reliant for their stability. The elimination of glue or nails means far less potential for problems and much more versatility, like use in basements or cottages.

Laminate floors are easy to clean and maintain. There is no need to refinish, sand or re-stain them. They can be cleaned easily by vacuuming or dust mopping.

They can be used in any high-traffic area where there is a need for a durable floor that does not require high maintenance.

Laminate floors are hypoallergenic because they do not harbour bacteria or dust mites, which can often be a health concern for people with allergies. High quality laminates are safe from toxins.

Laminate floor technology has improved dramatically in recent years to include bevelled edges, registered embossing (the texture exactly matches the printed pattern), multiple widths and different lengths. There is a style and texture to suit every décor imaginable.

Beautiful, high-quality laminate floors can add value to one’s home while being easy to maintain and durable to live on. Laminates can be installed above ground or below ground level, on concrete or wood sub-floors and there are even laminates durable enough for commercial applications.

  • Low VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) emission levels
  • Utilizes a large percentage of renewable ressource materials, primarily in core
  • No heavy metal components
  • Durable long lasting flooring
  • Laminate floors feature glue-less installation
  • Utilizes large amounts of wood and paper residue streams, providing upgraded use for normal waste
  • Underlayment minimizes surface prep work required
