Installation

Many types of flooring are sold as an easy, do-it-yourself installation. Beaulieu Canada suggests you speak with a flooring retailer about using a qualified installation specialist to ensure your new wall-to-wall carpet is installed professionally to guarantee the carpet’s warranty.

Installation Tips

Pre-Installation
Discuss the following with your retailer/installer prior to installation:

  • Will the retailer be providing accurate measurements showing roll direction and seam placement, as well as details in areas requiring special consideration such as stairs and closets?
  • Will the retailer be able to provide solutions for the areas where the new carpet will transition to other flooring surfaces such as ceramic or other existing carpet?
  • Will the retailer provide an analysis of the sub-floor surface to make certain the floor is consistent and level enough to accept your new carpet?
  • How will the carpet be stretched - manually or with a power stretcher?
  • Who is responsible for moving furniture and where? Specifically discuss unusually large or delicate items.
  • Who removes and disposes of the existing flooring that is being replaced?
  • Are there any extra charges for these services?
  • Where will the carpet seams be placed?

For a smooth installation, remove all furniture and breakable items for the installation area, and remove any wiring from the room. To help minimize dust/dirt, vacuum the old carpet before the installers arrive. Before the installation begins: Be sure to review the plan with your installer

  • Ensure there is a clear path for the installers to move the carpet roll into the room. Carpet rolls can be range between 12-15 feet long, therefore the installers will need plenty of room to maneuver.
  • It is best if the carpet is at normal room temperature when it is rolled out for installation. If it is being installed in a new house, and it is during winter months, the carpet should not be delivered prior to installation and left to sit in an unheated environment. If pre-delivery is unavoidable, then the heat in the house should be turned on to a normal temperature.
  • Make sure the carpet installation is the last remodeling project for the room, after any painting, wallpapering or construction
